Highlights

  • A long-tail boat trip through the canals is the perfect introduction to Bangkok: follow it up with a visit to Wat Pho, where the large Reclining Buddha will wow you and your family holiday.
  • Activities in Chiang Mai are both fun and educational: you’ll be walking with rescued elephants through the sacred foothills of Chiang Dao, and learning about natural medicines.
  • Enjoy beautiful beaches, resorts, and islands, from Phuket to Ao Nang Krabi to Ko Samet in the north.

Tips

  • Eat with a spoon – the main kitchen utensil in Thailand: most dishes are served with both a fork and a spoon, but the fork is used to push food onto the spoon only.
  • Use the Grab app for everything from hiring taxis and tuk-tuks to ordering food: download the app before arriving in the country to save time.
  • Don’t buy Buddha images: Buddha statues are everywhere in Thailand but it is actually illegal to take a Buddha image out of the country.
  • Toilet paper is scarce: many places in rural areas of Thailand may not have toilet paper available. So, bring your own toilet paper with you for your family trip to Thailand.

How to Plan a Perfect Thailand Family Holidays

In Southeast Asia, Thailand is one of the best places to visit with kids. The country has a safe infrastructure, lots of different things to do, and a friendly attitude toward kids, which makes traveling easy, even for families who are going to Asia for the first time.

Our Thailand Family Holidays are planned so that kids can learn, play, and rest at the same time. This way, parents can feel safe and kids can stay interested and busy the whole time.

What Is a Thailand Family Tour?

A Thailand family tour is a carefully planned itinerary made just for families going with kids or people of different ages. Instead of running through a lot of places, family tours focus on clear routes, short travel times, and activities that people of all ages can understand and enjoy.

Some things that a typical Thailand family tour would have are:

  • Short and easy days for transfers
  • Hotels that are good for families with a variety of room choices
  • Guided activities made just for kids
  • Some free time to rest, play, and move around

The goal isn’t to see everything, but to help families enjoy Thailand without getting tired or stressed out while still getting culture and fun things to do.

What Are the Best Destinations for Family Tours in Thailand?

Thailand family trips focus on places like Bangkok, Ayutthaya, Chiang Mai, Phuket, and Krabi that are safe, offer a wide range of activities, and move at a pace that is easy for both kids and adults to handle.

Bangkok

Bangkok in September

Bangkok is often the starting point for family tours due to its excellent transport connections and wide range of family-friendly attractions. Beyond temples and royal sites, Bangkok offers interactive museums, river boat rides, parks, and food experiences suitable for children. When planned properly, Bangkok provides cultural exposure without overwhelming young travelers.

Ayutthaya

A breathtaking sunset view of the ancient brick pagodas and central prang at Wat Chaiwatthanaram in Ayutthaya Historical Park, with the sky painted in shades of orange and purple.

The ancient ruins of Wat Chaiwatthanaram glow under a stunning sunset.

Ayutthaya is ideal for families because its open archaeological sites allow children to see history visually rather than through lengthy explanations. Located close to Bangkok, it can be visited without long travel days. Ayutthaya works well as a short educational stop that adds historical depth to a family itinerary.

Chiang Mai

A spectacular nighttime view of the Yee Peng (Loy Krathong) Lantern Festival in Chiang Mai, showing a large crowd releasing dozens of illuminated sky lanterns over a body of water.

Chiang Mai is one of the most family-friendly cities in Thailand. Its calmer pace, walkable old town, and nature-based activities make it suitable for families with children of different ages. Families often enjoy: easy temple visits, cultural workshops and markets and light outdoor activities in surrounding countryside. Chiang Mai helps families slow down and connect with local life.

Phuket

Phuket is popular for family tours thanks to its beaches, resorts, and child-friendly facilities. Many family itineraries use Phuket as a relaxation stop after cultural exploration. In addition to beach time, families can explore the old town, enjoy boat trips to nearby islands, or simply rest in well-equipped resorts.

Krabi

Krabi is a quieter alternative for families seeking nature and calm beaches. With dramatic limestone landscapes and shallow coastal areas, Krabi allows children to enjoy the outdoors safely. Krabi suits families who prefer peaceful scenery and gentle activities over busy resort environments.

My friend and I are foodie travelers, so we decided to book this tour with the desire to explore the Southeast Asia culinary scene, and this tour was absolutely beyond our expectations. Both Thai and Vietnamese cuisine are great, from their look to flavor. In each destination, we tried some food, and all of them were so excellent that they awakened our taste buds. Our 10-day trip from Chiang Mai to Phuket was an amazing experience, thanks to IDC Travel. In Chiang Mai, we explored beautiful temples, visited an ethnic elephant sanctuary, and enjoyed the lively night markets. Then, off to Phuket, where we relaxed on stunning beaches, took a breathtaking Phi Phi Islands tour, and indulged in delicious Thai food. My friends and I decided to take this trip to Thailand, and it was so fascinating. We have never visited a floating market like Famnoen Saduak, so this was so exciting to experience the vibrant atmosphere. The Grand Palace left us in awe with its intricate architecture and rich history. Then, the cruise on the Chao Phraya River gave us a unique and romantic view of Bangkok. Big thanks to our guide for making the trip smooth and enjoyable. Highly recommend this tour for first-time travellers to Thailand!
