Adventure Motorcycles Tour - A new way to enjoy Vietnam

Bikes are more than just a way to get around in Vietnam. They are a part of everyday life. Two-wheeled vehicles rule the roads, carrying families, goods, and whole ways of life from busy towns to small villages in the countryside. When you travel by motorbike, you can see the country at the speed of the locals. You can take small roads, stop whenever you want, and see everyday scenes that cars usually miss. It’s one of the most direct and honest ways to see how people really live and move in Vietnam.

What Should You Plan For Your Vietnam Motorbike Tour?

Three things are necessary to start planning a Vietnam bicycle tour: picking the right season, getting the right visa, and getting ready for how the roads and weather will change across the country.

Time to Travel

From November to April, when it doesn’t rain much and mountain roads are safer, is the best time to ride. During the months of June through October, heavy rain, flash floods, and sometimes typhoons can make it harder to ride long distances, especially in Central Vietnam and the northern mountains.

Visa

Most tourists now use the official e-visa to get into Vietnam. You can apply for one online, and it is accepted at all major airports and land borders. It’s important to check the most recent information on what you need, where you can enter, and how long you can stay before you leave because visa rules can change.

Be prepared

The north and mountains of Vietnam are where the weather can change quickly. It can get hot during the day and cool down at night. It’s important to wear clothes that you can put on top of each other. A motorbike trip through Vietnam is truly unforgettable if you have the right riding gear, basic rain gear, and a camera. These will help you stay dry and catch the beautiful scenery and people going about their daily lives.

What Are the Beautiful Landscapes along the Vietnam Motorcycle Route?

Vietnam offers some of the most rewarding motorbike routes, combining dramatic landscapes (Ha Giang, Cao Bang, Hue, Da Nang), cultural depth, and iconic mountain passes that are best experienced on two wheels.

Ha Giang

Ha Giang is widely considered the ultimate motorbike destination in northern Vietnam. Located in the far north, this province is defined by rugged limestone mountains and home to diverse ethnic communities such as the Hmong, Dao, Tay, Thai, and Muong.

Ha Giang

Ha Giang

Exploring the stunning mountains is the best thing to do in Ha Giang. Numerous mountain passes and roads are noteworthy. Starting from Ha Giang, the Quan Ba Heaven Gate is the first stunning mountain pass you will encounter. Beautiful views of the Twin Mountains can be had from this location. The Tham Ma Pass is the next mountain pass, with its recognizable s-shaped road. From here, you can choose to continue straight to Dong Van or take a detour via Lung Cu, which offers some of the best mountain views you could ask for, as you travel through the Sung La valley.

Among Vietnam’s mountain passes, the Ma Pi Leng Pass is king. Some of the steepest cliffs and most breathtaking scenery can be found on this road that connects Dong Van and Meo Vac. Many more beautiful mountain views await you as you travel from Meo Vac to Du Gia via Mau Due.

Cao Bang

Cao Bang is still one of Vietnam’s most underrated motorcycle areas. It’s perfect for riders who want to find natural beauty and quiet roads. Ban Gioc Waterfall, which is near the border with China and is the biggest waterfall in Vietnam, is the province’s main draw. With a width of about 300 meters, the falls are a strong and memorable sight, even though they are not very high.

Me Pja Pass is another great ride. It’s known for its 14 tight curves that go down the side of a mountain. A short hike from the top goes to a viewpoint with a wide view, making it one of the most beautiful passes in northern Vietnam.

Hue – Da Nang

The Hai Van Pass is a famous 21-kilometer coastal mountain road that connects central Vietnam’s royal city to its modern seaside hub. It makes the trip between Hue and Da Nang possible. The ride goes along a path with views of the sea, mountains, and clouds, and there are breaks that lead to quiet, pristine beaches. Heavy traffic has mostly gone somewhere else since the Hai Van Tunnel opened. This has made the pass safer and more enjoyable for motorbike passengers.

Lang Co Beach, which is right before the climb, is one of Vietnam’s best beaches. It has clear water, palm-lined shores, and high-end villas, making it a great place to stop before or after the pass.

Our 10-day trip from Chiang Mai to Phuket was an amazing experience, thanks to IDC Travel. In Chiang Mai, we explored beautiful temples, visited an ethnic elephant sanctuary, and enjoyed the lively night markets. Then, off to Phuket, where we relaxed on stunning beaches, took a breathtaking Phi Phi Islands tour, and indulged in delicious Thai food. My friends and I decided to take this trip to Thailand, and it was so fascinating. We have never visited a floating market like Famnoen Saduak, so this was so exciting to experience the vibrant atmosphere. The Grand Palace left us in awe with its intricate architecture and rich history. Then, the cruise on the Chao Phraya River gave us a unique and romantic view of Bangkok. Big thanks to our guide for making the trip smooth and enjoyable. Highly recommend this tour for first-time travellers to Thailand!

We are trying our best to cover all the problems that you need to worry about during your trips. However, there are 2 things you should consider to plan a perfect tríp:

– Travel insurance: adventure always goes together with a higher level of risk. Your Travel insurance will help a lot if anything happens during your trips.

– The weather: the weather in Vietnam is influenced by the tropical monsoon. It is unpredictable sometimes, especially when you’re travelling around the Highland area. So you should check out the weather forecast, and don’t forget to bring some back-up clothes along with you.

Vietnam motorcycle tours are best for travelers who:

  • Prefer slow travel and meaningful encounters
  • Enjoy landscapes experienced from ground level
  • Value flexibility over rigid sightseeing schedules
  • Want to understand Vietnam beyond major tourist hubs

They are less suitable for travelers seeking luxury-only experiences or fast-paced itineraries focused on ticking off landmarks.

International tourists don’t need to have a Vietnamese motorcycle license to go on guided trips because you ride with licensed local guides and organized tour operators.

But there are some important differences:

  • Travelers who rent motorbikes on their own may need an International Driving Permit that fits the type of license they have in Vietnam.
  • People who go on guided tours usually ride under the insurance and legal framework of the tour operator. This is one reason why many tourists choose our guided tours over riding on their own.

Before leaving, we usually go over local traffic rules, riding etiquette, and safety tips with our customers.

Vietnam is thought to be safe for motorbike travel as long as you are careful and well-prepared.

Important for safety:

  • Cities have a lot of traffic, but it moves in rhythms that are easy to understand.
  • Most of the time, rural and mountain roads are quiet, especially in the north.
  • Route planning, pace, and understanding of the area help guide tours lower risk.

The number of accidents constantly shows that the main group at higher risk are independent riders who don’t know their way around the area’s roads. These risks are much lower on our guided trips because we stay away from dangerous routes, riding at night, and bad weather.

Most professional motorcycle tours use bikes that are reliable, easy to keep, and right for Vietnam’s terrain.

  • Bikes between 125cc and 250cc that are semi-automatic and manual
  • Two-wheeled vehicles that can be used on and off-road

People choose these bikes not because they are fast, but because they are stable, use little gas, and have spare parts easy to find, which is important in remote areas.
