Why Visit the Great Wall of China?

China’s Great Wall is not a single “tourist spot” but a vast defensive system stretching across northern China, with the most accessible and scenic sections clustered around Beijing. It is also a UNESCO World Heritage site (inscribed in 1987), which means visitor impact, seasonality, and route choice matter more here than at many other landmarks.

This landing page gathers our Great Wall of China tours for 2026/2027, from easy day trips to wild-wall hikes and overnight camping, so you can choose the right section based on your fitness level, comfort needs, and travel dates.

When Is the Best Time to Visit the Great Wall of China?

The best months to visit the Great Wall near Beijing are typically from April to May and from September to October, when temperatures are comfortable for walking and visibility is often good. These shoulder seasons reduce heat stress compared with midsummer and usually feel easier for longer hikes.

For 2026 planning, two practical rules help most travelers:

  • Avoid major Chinese public holidays and weekends if crowd comfort matters
  • Check wind and rain forecasts carefully for hiking and camping routes, because safety and trail conditions can change quickly

Which Great Wall Section Should You Choose?

The “best” Great Wall section depends on what you want: comfort and views, or quiet hiking and a wilder atmosphere. Here is how the sections in our tour collection typically differ:

  • Mutianyu Great Wall: best for first-timers and families (restored, convenient access, optional cable car). It’s roughly 73-75 km from central Beijing, usually 1.5-2 hours by road depending on traffic.
  • Jinshanling Great Wall: best for scenic hiking and photography, with a classic “restored-to-wild” feel in many routes.
  • Jiankou Great Wall: best for strong hikers who want dramatic, rugged “wild wall” character (often steep and uneven). Our camping program here is designed for experienced, well-prepared travelers.
  • Gubeikou Great Wall: best for hikers who want a quieter, less commercial section and a more remote landscape feel (often paired in multi-day hiking routes).
  • Huangyaguan Great Wall and Huanghuacheng Great Wall: great add-ons for variety, mixing different terrain and viewpoints across a longer adventure-style itinerary.

My friend and I are foodie travelers, so we decided to book this tour with the desire to explore the Southeast Asia culinary scene, and this tour was absolutely beyond our expectations. Both Thai and Vietnamese cuisine are great, from their look to flavor. In each destination, we tried some food, and all of them were so excellent that they awakened our taste buds. Thank you IDC Travel for guiding us to the popular food spots and supporting us during our trip! Would definitely use their service in the future!!!

This is our very first time traveling to Thailand and it was an unforgettable escape. Thailand beaches were so lively, and Phang Nga Bay amazed us with its dramatic limestone cliffs and emerald waters, especially during a scenic boat tour. This is truly a must-visit for nature lovers and beach enthusiasts!

Our 10-day trip from Chiang Mai to Phuket was an amazing experience, thanks to IDC Travel. In Chiang Mai, we explored beautiful temples, visited an ethnic elephant sanctuary, and enjoyed the lively night markets. Then, off to Phuket, where we relaxed on stunning beaches, took a breathtaking Phi Phi Islands tour, and indulged in delicious Thai food. The itinerary was well organized, and our guide made every moment so special. Highly recommend this trip for anyone visiting Thailand!

My friends and I decided to take this trip to Thailand, and it was so fascinating. We have never visited a floating market like Famnoen Saduak, so this was so exciting to experience the vibrant atmosphere. The Grand Palace left us in awe with its intricate architecture and rich history. Then, the cruise on the Chao Phraya River gave us a unique and romantic view of Bangkok. Big thanks to our guide for making the trip smooth and enjoyable. Highly recommend this tour for first-time travellers to Thailand!
