This Mai Chau Tour is designed to allow clients to appreciate the grandeur of nature while also learning about tribal customs and culture. Mai Chau is a little hamlet about 130 kilometers west of Hanoi, nestled in the heart of a lush valley surrounded by emerald-green rice fields. Our driver and tour guide from IDC Travel will arrive at your hotel in Hanoi at 8 a.m. to take you up. Depart towards Hoa Binh, stopping at several excellent photo opportunities along the road; we also stop at a small market of the Muong Ethnic Minority to learn about their everyday lives and customs; and experience the breathtaking beauty of Thung Khe Pass.
We arrive at Lac Village around lunchtime and settle into our home stay/hotel. Following that, we will have lunch in a nearby village or restaurant.
Lac Village, Mai Chau
After lunch and a little break, we will go on a bicycle ride with our tour guide to visit farmers working in fields and locals weaving scarves to learn about weaving in the traditional technique, where we will be able to practice and purchase the products. We will then pedal across calm villages.
Free time to go about and shop before supper (optional to eat dinner and see the Thai traditional dance and drink the traditional wine “ruou can”).

AM: After breakfast, we travel towards Pu Luong over a stunning mountain pass that provides a panoramic view of the entire valley, where you may roam about and admire the wonderful countryside before lunch.
Pu Luong Mai Chau
PM: We begin our descent into the lovely valley where you may wander along cascading rice terraces. Trek via narrow pathways cloaked in foliage until you reach a lovely settlement at the foot of a magnificent mountain. Your camera will be unable to remain steady!
As you make your way to the valley’s bottom, you’ll pass through roads and farms, communities and untamed fields, ponds and rivers, mountains and open space. Enjoy the ever-changing environment as you hike to a wonderful location. After that, you will be transferred back to your home stay/retreat for dinner and overnight.
Mai Chau Valley Hoa Binh
After breakfast, you’ll be driven to a suspension bridge over the Cham River, where you’ll begin your trek in search of beautiful water wheels. Get up up and personal with each wheel to see how water is transported from the river to handcrafted bamboo aqueducts of all diameters.
Pu Luong
When you arrive at a local fisherman’s house, you enjoy a little break before embarking on the rafting experience. Float along the quiet river and take in the scenery while learning how to paddle and control your constructed rafts.
After lunch, we’ll return to your Hanoi hotel and wrap off your trip at 5 p.m.
