Get up early to watch the sunrise. Start your Laos and Vietnam in 19 days trip by participating in one of the most sacred traditions of Laos – the daily distribution of morning alms, in which more than 200 Buddhist monks from different temples get their daily meal from loyal locals on the streets.
Then, visit the temporary morning market which is located near the old Royal Palace. Locals come here to buy and sell rice, fish, vegetables, or chicken. It is a good way to experience the local way of life. Return to your hotel for breakfast.
Next, you will visit Haw Kham Royal Palace, built in 1904 in the French colonial era for the royal family of King Sisavang Vong.
After that, visit Wat Visoun, Wat Mai, and the shrine of Wat Aham. Continue to discover the old by and explore the temple of Wat Xieng Thong. This is a magnificent architectural monument nestled at the confluence of the Mekong and Nam Khan Rivers. The temple has a 2-tiered roof with ornate mosaics. There is a beautiful tree of life on the back wall.
Finally, visit the Center for Traditional Arts and Ethnology (closed on Mondays) where you can learn about the diverse culture of the ethnic people of Laos.

Visit the Phonsavan Central Market before transferring to Muang Khoun (about 40 kilometers away) where you can explore the ancient capital in ruins.

Discover the city of Vientiane with a visit to Wat Sisaket, which is the center of local Buddhism with beautiful frescoes as well as more than 2000 magnificent Buddha statues. Built in 1818, it is the only temple in Vientiane that was not destroyed in the Thai invasion in 1828.
Next, visit Wat Phra Kaew. This ancient royal capital chapel housed the Emerald Buddha and the palladium of the Kingdom of Lane Xang, which was later transformed into a museum. Take a stroll through the craft market, known for its weavings and silver objects. Then, visit Patuxay Monument, which was built in 1959 and is considered the triumphal arch of Laos.

Following your trip, discover Laos’ countryside by visiting the village of Ban Hom. You can meet artisans and enjoy local rural life.
Return to Vientiane and visit Wat Si Muang, Wat Ong Teu, and its large bronze Buddha. Meet the monks who teach Buddhism at the Sangha school. Then, take a stroll along the banks of the Mekong River and watch the sunset.

Go to Don Khong and discover the impressive Khon Phapheng Falls.

During the time of the French colonial, this locomotive was used on a few kilometers of the railway line.
