In the morning, after breakfast, your exploration of Vientiane commences. The tour begins with visits to the city’s prominent historical sites, including Wat Sisaket, renowned for housing hundreds of miniature Buddha statues, and Wat Prakeo, the former royal temple that once enshrined the celebrated Emerald Buddha Image.

As you journey through the city, seize the chance to photograph the imposing Patuxay Monument, Vientiane’s version of the Arc de Triomphe, en route to the revered That Luang Stupa, a national treasure of Laos.

The afternoon is filled with more exploration as we stroll through Vientiane, visiting notable temples such as Wat Ong Tue, Wat Inpeng, and Wat Haisok. The journey extends to the bustling Talad Sao and Talad Kouadin Central Markets, vibrant hubs where an array of items, including fresh produce, household essentials, souvenirs, textiles, and even gold and silver, are up for sale.

Return to the hotel in the late afternoon, free dinner, and overnight at the hotel.

After enjoying breakfast, we embark on an early flight to Pakse. From there, our journey heads south on National Road No. 13 towards Champasak, where we pause to explore the awe-inspiring pre-Angkorian Wat Phu. This temple, nestled at the base of Mount Phu Kao, is one of Southeast Asia’s most magnificent architectural wonders. Dating back to the 10th century, Wat Phu predates the renowned Angkor Wat in Cambodia and was honored as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2001. Its rich historical significance and stunning Khmer architecture make it a must-visit.

After this enriching historical experience, we continue our adventure towards Don Khone. As the largest island in the South Mekong River area, known as the 4000 islands, Don Khone is celebrated for its breathtaking scenery and tranquil ambiance, making it a highlight of Laos’ natural beauty.

The day concludes with an overnight stay on Don Khone Island, allowing you to relax and soak in the serene atmosphere of this picturesque region.

Following an early breakfast, our day begins with a fascinating tour of the villages near Ban Khone. Here, you’ll have the opportunity to witness the remnants of Laos’ colonial era, including several old French colonial buildings and the historic first Lao railway with its locomotive. This part of the tour offers a glimpse into the area’s rich colonial history.

Next, we embark on a leisurely boat tour through the 4000 islands, allowing us to appreciate the area’s natural beauty at our own pace. A highlight of this journey is a visit to the stunning Liphi Waterfall, also known as Samphamith. Located at the Laos-Cambodia border, this waterfall is among the region’s most picturesque. As we reach Ban Hang Khone, there’s a chance to spot the elusive freshwater Irrawaddy Mekong dolphin, a rare and enchanting sight.

4000 islands (Si Phan Don)

Our adventure continues with a drive to the majestic Khone Phapeng Falls. Known as the largest waterfall in Southeast Asia, it’s often referred to as the “Niagara of the East” due to its impressive scale and beauty.

Departing from Don Khone Island, our journey takes us through the scenic Bolaven Plateau en route to Tadlo. The Bolaven Plateau, elevated above the Mekong Valley, is renowned for its cooler climate. This highland area is a natural wonder, with rivers cascading in all directions, forming spectacular waterfalls that plunge into verdant forests below.

Traveling across the plateau offers a refreshing respite from the heat and a chance to witness the cultivation of various crops like coffee, tea, cardamom, and bananas. This part of the trip allows for an off-the-beaten-path experience, showcasing some of Laos’s lesser-known yet incredibly rich landscapes. It’s an opportunity to delve into the untamed beauty of southern Laos.

Upon reaching the Tad Lo waterfall, our exploration extends to the nearby villages of Alak, Nge, and Katu. These villages are unique, each inhabited by different ethnic groups, offering insights into the diverse cultural tapestry of the region.
